Remember Akin "screaming" at Pollievre during a question and answer session, something he would never have done to Trudeau? To the crew of "journalists," add in Glen McGregor and Stephen Maher who chased phantom robocalls for four years with Harper as PM. Then lower than a snakes belly, David Cochrane who thinks free speech is for me, not for thee, cries to the debate commissioner for help removing the pesky Rebel. Robert Fife who thinks asking subscribers for help is totally beneath the standards of his elitist perch at the Globe is not above taking taxpayer funds, it seems, when needed, or going back to the trough to ask for more. https://tnc.news/2020/05/24/the-globe-and-mail-asks-government-for-more-financial-assistance/ Hypocrisy thy name is Fife. Do these people need to be taken down a rung or not?
Taken down a rung is insufficient. Anyone in the real world, where there’s consequences for deceptive, abhorrent behaviour, would be shown the door and shunned
"We never did find out why the Eurasia Group, an American firm, had such strong ties to the Liberal party, including employing Diana Fox, spouse of Mark Carney, and vice chair Gerald Butts."
Not one outlet reported on the advance of the WHO pandemic Treaty which has egregious and indeed frightening censorship provisions and now includes climate into the censorship game. Really do CTV, the Observer, Global, or the CBC come in 2-ply? I'm releasing my book WORLD ON MUTE. Stay tuned to my substack for same.
As always, Peter, I enjoy your well written columns.
First, I must praise you for willingness to ask questions. Those questions are increasingly, in this climate (that "word"), seen as kinda, possibly, maybe, in the service of PP and the CPC but, dammit!, they are valid questions.
The criticism of simply asking questions and trying to get confirmation, clarification, yada, yada, yada [thank you, Seinfeld!] is simply the task of journalists and sometimes committing journalism for that clarity, etc. reveals something of importance; sometimes not, but the questions must be asked. Again, praise to you and your kind! But not to the overall "journalism" community but rather to you and yours who actually practice your craft.
Second, I seek a clarification for I am rather obtuse today. You write, "... The past five weeks, particularly the manner in which media were frequently and - it appeared - willingly played by a malevolent unnamed single source (and most folks know who he is and what his motivations are) ..."
Hmmm...... I don't know to whom you refer when you mention that "source" although I can try to guess. Two and then seven paragraphs further on you mention the eminent Mr. Butts. Is the relative short distance between your comment and his name significant? Truth to tell, I really am mildly interested in the name of the "source." I suspect that you are thinking about libel and slander laws and that you do not have a large corporate parent with fleets of lawyers to support you but, really, can you provide soooommme kind of hint?
I was not aware of the David Olive column until you mentioned it so I took a look. Typical Olive colored stream of (non) consciousness. I (an Albertan) have from time to time had subscriptions to the Star but the truly obtuse Central Canadian, utterly Laurentian, head in the sand perspective always drives me away. There are many worthy rejoinders to Olive's column but it is simply most useful to ignore the drivel.
So, as always, I conclude with a "Bravo!" to you and your work.
"Man is a thinking animal, a talking animal, a toolmaking animal, a building animal, a political animal, a fantasizing animal. But, in the twilight of a civilization he is chiefly a taxpaying animal."
I clicked on your link about Cochrane asking a question and it is NO longer there which was NO surprise it's the CBC's Nothing To See Here! What a sorry state Canada, our media and our elections have become.
Is it Carney's plan if elected to magically reappoint Katie Telford as Chief PMO again so the old small gang is all there many unelected who will continue to run Canada into the ground some more!
Formerly in the US, the Fairness Doctrine prohibited this trick of showing the bad on one side while omitting the same bad on the other side. Broadcasters (but not newspapers) were forbidden to play partisan games. The FCC watched carefully and pulled licenses from violators.
Omission is the most effective form of propaganda because the audience doesn't know what's missing. A plain lie isn't effective.
Of course the Fairness Doctrine was repealed in the 1980s along with all the other protections of the New Deal. Wall Street regained the upper hand and still holds it.

There's the Eurasia Group and the ever increasing ubiquitous presence of Chinese Communists in all things electoral, but what of the influence of the Tides Foundation through its offshoot Tides Canada, now named MakeWay...?
Wow, that's what they're called now? They, the Rockefeller's, WWF, etc really doing what US AID and oil interests want: shutting down the Northern competition and keeping the cheap, discount-priced hydrocarbons flowing south.
Very well stated! I agree with everything you’ve said. I will be voting separation in the coming referendum. The eastern politicians have destroyed Canada. Harper couldn’t fix it.
Thank you Peter Menzies. I truly appreciate your voice.

Ohhhh Canada...

Thank you Peter. A well thought out article. I will be sharing.

Liberal platform?
My best guess is Butts...
Can the rest of us join you in taking a break for a week or two?

A pox on all their houses.

As for the imbecilic Toronto Star column: omfg, may you get what you wish! What a sausage. Hopefully Sask and most of BC will come with you, AB!
I regret that I have but one bank account to freeze for my country, tiz of thee.
