Thanks, Peter. I am already very tired of the Liberal biased media attempts to spin straw into gold when it comes to Carney. Almost no one asks real questions, and on the rare occasion one is asked, it is waved off/dismissed by Carney or responded to with word salad served with acetic dressing. Trump’s tariffs are a problem, but the notion that Trump is Canada’s biggest issue was always a farce endorsed by the talking heads and the media. That Carney would be tough and strong in his “handling” of Trump was always another farce. The Canadian electorate is so gullible. The Liberals “young priest” wrecked so much of Canada, so now the Liberal “old priest” takes over the mound, with the same weak bench, I might add.
Was there a superstition that if you repeat “liberal biased media” ten thousand times your leader will be elected? Come on. Post Media, which owns nearly every daily newspaper and the National Post, completely skews to the right. Globe and Mail is centre right. CTV is pretty centrist. They, like CBC, commit what is more commonly known as “journalism” by asking every side questions. If Polievre didn’t deigned to answer questions from the mainstream media, he can’t complain about one sided coverage.
And PS EVERY politician complains about a bias when they get critical or even questioned. You don’t have to believe it.
You hit the nail on the head. Why even go? We need to fix our own economy first. Trump can behave whatever way he wishes, but he isn’t the problem. It’s our history of baaaaad leadership in the past ten years.
A third question: "If Canada has nothing you want, need (your words Mr. President) then why do you keep talking about how wonderful it would be to have us as your 51st state?"
IMHO, PM Carney didn't have many cards to play, and the ones he had, he didn't play well. But I don't think any of that matters. Canada has allowed itself to be in this position, and now the chickens have come home to roost.
Carney handled him perfectly, never forgetting it’s always about Trump, the narcissist. This was just a little get-to know-you and take your measure, on both sides. Your so important question would have been swatted aside as always, “America doesn’t need your stuff”.
I cringe to think of how PP would have attempted to handle this.
Yah. Like smiling and winking at the camera was a diplomatic coup de grace. Imagining a negative PP reply doesn’t automatically make the Carney reply a positive.
Well we don’t really know how PP would have handled that. But when I watched this meeting, I was very disappointed in Carney. I’m not sure what that meeting was with all the talk about ‘stuff’ that wasn’t pertinent to this meeting. Trump bellowing - needing the stage. It still showed a sad performance by our leader who promised elbows up. Now everyone is supposed to just say ‘he did as well as he could, or he showed how cunning and smart he really is’. MSM is spinning this disaster and trying to influence us as they did from the start of Carney’s crowning in Canada. I do not feel optimistic. Not sorry.
The concept of Canada as a republic is nice and perhaps needed, but I fear the reality of such a move. This is a country that created a new constitution in 1982, but lacked the foresight and will to makeover the country as it existed at that time. Rather it still fell back on its ancient traditions. It still left in place unequal representation and guaranteed certain provinces a level of representation regardless of present reality. It is a country that kept an unelected, non-representative upper house rather than the more normal equal and elected upper house one finds in more serious countries.
I cannot imagine creating a republic today in Canada with its many self- interest groups, indigenous nations and inward looking urban centres. I cannot imagine creating imagineva republic wherein the likes of the Trudeau clan would become the new ‘royalty’. I would sooner avoid the pitfalls of creating a ‘new’ republic and getting a Trump-like (left or right) head of state and keep dull old GIII.

Everybody should have realized that whomever we elected was going to send a trade delegation.

Sure thing, except…most of what you stated is just wrong.

I think Poilievre would have had more to say.

He would have cracked jokes. Because he is funny. And that is what would have been remembered. Instead iMr Limpwrist looked like a beta.
Mr Poilievre would not have genuflected; he would have told the President where to get off.
Pierre Poilievre would have handled it just fine!
No evidence of that whatsoever in his career, nor would Trump have given him any initial respect.
Ah, but there is plenty of evidence for those who are not too blinded by prejudice to see it. I am as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours.

Methinks Carnage is a twerp.
