Plus! If Carney doubles the CBC’s funding and allows it to sell advertising, he might as well "line the country’s private broadcasters and newspaper publishers up against the wall and open fire"
Peter: Canadians would benefit from more journalists who ask tough questions. My friend Veronic teaches journalism in Windsor and studiously imparts to these young minds never to lose their balance and be swayed by the dollar, for then you have corrupted yourself and the profession. I always enjoy your articles. Keep up the great work.
Great article that reminds us that it doesn’t matter how many questions get asked if answers aren’t provided. Bob and weave and blame everything on someone else rules and reporters put up with it.
I think a very underreported story is having a “caretaker government” passing out free money, no conditions attached, right in the midst of an election campaign. Carney tried to justify the carbon tax rebate as a “bridge” to help needy families to get by for a few weeks until better plans come forth after the election.
It’s blatant vote buying, because the carbon tax rebates were paid in ADVANCE of the fiscal quarter of taxation. With the tax rescinded, there is nothing to rebate.
Try harder reporters. I can see Democracy Watch or some other organization taking the government to court for abusing their limited spending powers during an election.
That’s rich. “Axe the tax” was more blatant vote buying. And Poilievre was able to convince enough people that this wrong move was the right move that Carney had no choice. To not do it would sound very principled but we live in a democracy and he’s hoping to form a new government. It would go against the clear wishes of the majority of Canadians. Most of his other “actions” (outside of dealing with Trump) are election promises. If he’s not elected they won’t happen.
You haven’t explained how a caretaker government can cancel the consumer carbon tax to neuter a political opponent and then pass out a carbon tax rebate when consumers won’t be paying the tax to qualify for a rebate. ???
Good question. At the time that Carny signed the order-in-council to remove the carbon tax the election had not been called - they weren’t in “caretaker” mode. The rebate was distributed quarterly and based on taxes already collected. It could be argued that the final rebate could have been prorated to exclude the last couple weeks where it wasn’t collected. I’m not sure if that was debated or not and I don’t know if it would have been logically correct. However, it seems like it would have taken more work to do that, and many people would have been expecting that cheque in the full amount, so it does seem like they made the logical move.
Fantastical? Maybe, or perhaps experienced would be a better word. I will let you know once I figure out what your party are calling it next.....! Your party are running out of names for new taxes.
With Trudeau it was “ Where’s Waldo?” on a daily basis with key issues of growth and economic prosperity. With Carney it’s “ Where’s Waldo’s residence and stashed tax haven?” One ghost like figure exits and poof - in comes another. The last thing Canada needs is another absentee landlord PM. We need a young fresh change with someone who much to his credit has stuck it out and has the chops to get us back to health and wealth. BTW, I will never get the Liberal go to …” he’s a career politician therefore not fit for the chair…” DUH. I digress.
I found Carney as a member of the g30 (30 men in from central banking). His profile was downed in March 2025. What questions should he be fielded about the conflicts there? central bankers might want central currency (global) and that is hardly Canadian. Or does he still think the digital Yuan is the right way to go.
Why aren't Conservatives holding Mark Carney accountable for directing the Covid-19 military operation FAKE PANDEMIC which enabled the elimination of hundreds of thousands of Canadians from government pensions, payrolls and benefits thus ERASING THOSE GOVERNMENT/CROWN CORPORATION LIABILITIES and maximizing stakeholder profits while simultaneously injecting Canadians with nanotechnology biosensors for surveillance under the skin via the Internet of Bio-Nano Things and the WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network IEEE802.15.6 in the Terahertz Band) contrary to Sections 184(1) and 430(5) of the Criminal Code of Canada?
Because the VAST MAJORITY OF CONSERVATIVES took multiple doses of the experimental modified mRNA Gene Therapy platform injections which change gene expression and connect us to the Internet of Bio-Nano Things.
Conservatives, just like biofascist Liberals, are happy to violate the Charter-protected rights of the other team but cry like babies when those same rights violations happen to them.
The issue is that Canadians don't understand their rights because if they did they would know that the entire Covid-19 military operation FAKE PANDEMIC was de facto DISASTER CAPITALISM using MKULTRA SHOCK THERAPY for asset-stripping and biometric tracking on blockchain of Canadians. DATA IS THE NEW OIL.
The INTENTIONAL collapse of the global economy which began with Convid is being done to install the new economic system for surveillance under the skin via the Internet of Bio-Nano Things. The nanotechnology biosensors which are embedded in masks, tests and jabs have made us ALL nodes on the network. Programmable digital currencies both public (CBDCs) and private (stablecoins, Tether, XRP) based on COMPLIANCE will replace cash and your SOCIAL CREDIT SCORE will determine what you are allowed to spend your digital currencies on.
Your blind obedience is the biggest problem including to so-called conservative media which is owned by the same 5 multinational corporations as "progressive" media.
The fake 2-party paradigm is 100% THEATER and serves to coral the other team into the same open-air digital prison using different talking points.
THE BANKERS CONTROL NATIONAL ECONOMIC POLICY NO MATTER WHO IS (S)ELECTED AS THE FRONT PUPPET. YOUR VOTE DOESN'T MATTER. THE SYSTEM IS NOT MEANT TO REPRESENT US. IT'S MEANT TO SERVE THE BANKS, MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS AND THE WAR MACHINE.
I lost $1 million dollars because of my rightful non-compliance with non-existent mandates. Clichés won't change my reality.
Why didn't lawyers lay private informations (CRIMINAL CHARGES) under Section 504 of the CCC against the bosses who administered the unconstitutional mask, test and GENE THERAPY mandates? Specifically for the warrantless search and seizure of our biometrics using Smart AI nanotechnology biosensors embedded in masks, tests and jabs for surveillance under the skin via the Internet of Bio-Nano Things contrary to Sections 184(1) and 430(5) of the Criminal Code of Canada?
Here's what I don't get about the populations of any western country - when it comes to not just their tolerance of, but support of these types - Any of these idiots that have the badging of globalist, liberal, progressive, marxist, communist, muslim/terrorist supporting apologist, or adjacent to any political figure leader who wears those badges should be shouted down and drug to the edge of the country and booted into the abyss.
After all that has happened in the past 4 years alone (especially in Canada) the only people who should be let near a political seat or campaign should be populists - vetted and confirmed at that, not ones pretending to be.
Given that the vast majority of newspapers are owned by post media, and the extent of the monopoly, I wouldn’t see their collapse as much of a loss. As for broadcasting: we desperately need sources to counteract the disinformation so happily spewed on social media.
Giving more money to CBC will not be a panacea but in a time of national crisis, it is important. I think Carney believes we are entering an economic war. The tariffs are bad enough but they are triggering a worldwide crisis of confidence in the US. That upheaval is going to affect us even more. We need to shore ourselves us, politically, economically, and yes socially.
Journalists always think inside the big city. Toronto, NYC, Paris, Berlin, same everywhere. Even when they come from rural areas, they quickly adopt urban arrogance. Some of the most famous US journalists grew up in the US equivalent of Saskatchewan then became known for their NYC purity. Before globalism and centralism, places like Chicago and Kansas City had strong local papers and radio stations, but the biggest city always owns everything in the end.
I can’t read this article. Maybe I’m missing something but why is the sub-heading saying Carney plans to double the CBC budget when he has actually proposed a 10.9% increase? The proposed increase doesn’t even bring us close to what other developed nations spend on their public broadcaster - unless the US is our model. Has this writer gone full-Poilievre on us?
Because he said that he wanted to boost by $150 million immediately and in the long term move it to international public broadcaster funding levels - some of which were outlined by Pascale St-Onge before she left. That would roughly double current funding levels. Does that help?
It doesn’t really help, no. You took one factual piece, the government has pledged to increase the CBC budget by 10.9% and you added to that a misrepresented assumption from a proposal of a previous minister. That proposal also called for far fewer commercials (not more as you state) and it also called a different governance model creating greater independence and a greater focus on underserved markets. That is to say - to compete less with commercially media. You added just one part of that proposal, it would appear, to create a certain inaccurate picture. After that intro bit I refused to read the rest of article. So, I don’t know if you fairly addressed the notion that the “doubling” assumption that you make (based on achieving the average G7 per capita expenditure) reveals the fact that the CBC is grossly underfunded.
I don't believe that having CBC go ad free would be much of a benefit to private broadcasters. I base this on 2023 financial numbers submitted to the CRTC (2024 numbers have not been submitted yet).
Convention TV had $1.281 B in ad revenue with CBC making up 13% of the total or $168 Million. Discretionary TV had $1.309 B in ad revenue with CBC Newsworld and ICI making up 2% of the total or $31 Million. In total, the industry had $2.59 Billion in ad revenue with the CBC making up 7.7% or $199 Million of the total.
Furthermore, we don't know how much of the $199 Million the CBC receives would flow to private broadcasters, foreign streamers, newspapers, social media, or not be spent. I'm sure the private broadcasters would welcome whatever portion of the CBC ad revenue they would receive, but the amount won't be enough to make much of difference to their financial problems. They are losing viewers. If they can't fix that a little more ad revenue will only delay the inevitable.
They sure have, and to me, that highlights why they have the financial problems they have now. They've blamed the CBC, the CRTC, unfair competition, and social media instead of looking in the mirror. They are losing viewers because others offer a much better product.

Comrade Carney zeroed it out temporarily, not exactly removing it. Make no mistake, he makes his money on the carbon scam.
Do you have, and could you please provide if you do, any evidence to support your fantastical claim?
Fantastical? Maybe, or perhaps experienced would be a better word. I will let you know once I figure out what your party are calling it next.....! Your party are running out of names for new taxes.

Drivel.
