A tragic story that only amplifies in my mind that Mark Carney is an unworthy

candidate.

Based on what I know Maurice Strong was a political force BITD. One thing : if you dared have an alternate view to his position ? Immediately fired or sent to purgatory. On the other hand ? Sycophants rewarded.

That's the way my father used to describe Strong and a friend of mine who worked for a spell with Carney indicates he doesn't respond well if others suggest alternatives. But in Canada our media seem comfortable with one-man bands

Plagiarism is like Blackface, it is not important if it happened long ago if you are a Liberal. Unlike long ago prior Conservative social values which must be trotted out now.

Disingenuous is a high-falutin' word for lying.... and Carney is turning out to be a master of that craft.

Not only was he disingenuous, like someone without conscience, he laughed while he made his comment. For years I've been afraid Carney would get into this position and here we have him wielding his particular brand of "charm" for those who are gullible enough to fall for it.

For years I thought Carney was a demigod for singlehandedly steering Canada relatively unscathed through the 2008 global economic meltdown. Then I found out the truth. Carnage, as he is unaffectionately known in the UK, would be an absolute disaster for Canada.

Hopefully the subsidies that the Liberal government gives much of the incurious media has nothing to do with it.

Plagiarism is lazy tagging behind a clever, thoughtful bright person. I don’t know what the pennant should be but falling upon one’s sword is extreme 🤷‍♀️

Considering the filibustering and side stepping using word salad replies this has been the LPC modus operandi for years!!

These civil servants work for us!!! Where did this role become so skewed criminal and narcissistic??!! Multi billions in debt is definitely not acceptable especially with the open borders and refugees streaming in with little checks. Is this the WEF planning?

Zero trust or faith in Mark Carney-his behavior in all that he has done in this campaign portrays a sneakiness and arrogance towards everyone. Be very aware Canadians when casting your vote. He is simply another Trudeau, only worse.

Much worse, because he's intelligent and purposeful. Trudeau is/was all about a sort of superficial vanity. This guys is something different.

Stealing words is just the petty crime initiation ritual for graduating to the big league Libranos. Does anyone remember Alfonso Cashbagliano from days of yesteryear?

Unfortunately, yes. Gosh I thought the Chrétien years were astonishing in their blatant corruption and criminality. This gang is even worse. Canadians don't seem to mind, or have gotten used to being ruled by the Quebec Political Mafia. Time to end this farce of Confederation.

His thesis advisor and committee are responsible for checking his references. By absolving Carney, his advisor is absolving herself.

You are absolutely correct in your explanation of how journalists should operate. But the MSM in Canada, with a few brave exceptions, do not hire journalists. They hire propagandists, as the liberal government pays them to. If I found one of them in my front yard, I would turn the hose on it.

Years ago, one of the best sports writers on staff at the Winnipeg Free Press was fired after he was found to have cut and pasted unattributed material from US sports columns. (A truly sad thing considering the general brilliance of the guy to write sports stories that were widely read.)

As Mr. Menzies alludes to, journalists are more than aware of the professional perils of looting material from others and presenting it as your own. It can lead to legal exposure and workplace discrimination. Finding a new job with the taint of a phoney can’t be easy.

So, why isn’t there any interest in the Canadian media to put some real meat on the Thesis story? Mr. Carney and his advisors have been looting the Conservative platform for favourable attention from voters, so a lack of original content is a current issue too.

that's a rhetorical question, surely. There hasn't been much interest from Canadian MSM media because, as Taleeb Noormohamed (saying the quiet part out loud) reminded Terry Newman of the NP, remember who is paying their salaries.

Truly the plagiarizing of the CPC platform is a more current example. But it is in line with the guiding principle of the LPC.

Excellent. I think we have too many people at all levels and occupations in our society who don't want to think critically and with as little emotion as possible when making a decision. We decide things based largely on emotion; advertising has proven this and listening to what acquaintances, friends/family,and social media say. A writer recently asked us (in my words) what are the values we want in ourselves and in our country/government leaders, and are they in synch? Don't vote/decide until you've considered this. I don't recall being taught critical thinking, or identifying values and I worked in a professional position. I also found some of my work managers not willing to deal with an issue as it's easier to hide the issue. I read yesterday that a person involved in approving Carney's PhD made it clear he didn't plagiarize and he referenced other people's work; I don't know enough to agree or disagree. I've never voted Liberal, and I can't forgive them for all of the damage they have done to Canada over 9 years. Hurricane Trump now turning the world upside down and at the worse time for Canada has made our decision of who will be our next PM more difficult. Just like I can list many major bad decisions Trudeau and his senior MP's supported, my list of Carney's focus/interest and values are not in line with mine are clear. I won't take a risk and vote for him. I will vote for PP. None of us know which of these two will do the best job. Regardless of who wins, all the promises made, all the huge amount of money required and where it will come from, will take a long time to see if we're heading in the right direction. One thing for sure is we Canadians have to keep our eyes on the ball for the foreseeable future. We can't afford to get on the wrong track.

A big positive that has come out of this for me is the number of impressive Canadian names knew to me are speaking out via YouTube, Substack, etc. Peter Menzies, Black Cloud Six being two. One group of entrepreneurs is Build Canada. The list of people coming from different political views and industries, backgrounds is a breath of fresh air. We have a lot of smart, perceptive and high energy Canadians that I didn't know about. Same for companies.

This appears to overstates what is known. It’s disappointing because it could have been a good article.

Based on the information I can access, the potential plagiarism consists of 10 phrases or short paragraphs that were missing quotation marks. Some of these were elsewhere in the paper with quotation marks and apparently all the authors were properly cited. The fact that Carney did not want to start getting into the finer details of a 30 year old paper, in a “gotcha” gathering, could have many explanations. Those explanations may include that he is guilty of plagiarism (although that appears unlikely) but to conclude that or to conclude he is deflecting for a specific reason that goes to his character is a gross overstatement in more ways that one. The most notable for me is it’s likely a gross over estimation of ones own ability. Namely the writer here that is apparently claiming the ability to discern, with such objective sounding prose that I can see many are buying it, the motives of another (calling it a “ploy” and “highly skilled disingenuousness”) and to imply character judgement based on these known (yet unknowable) motives.
